Abstract

The demand for water-energy worldwide is a determining factor in the security and economy of developing countries. It is understood that there are technological advances in the cities of the first world, to mitigate these problems, but it is still necessary to tropicalize these solutions, for the needs similar to other parts of the globe. As a design method, reverse engineering can replicate the creation of products, without having preliminary drawings, documentation or computer modeling of the component at hand. This research describes the characterization of a water-saving valve, called WaterProfit®, based on the acquisition of a copy of commercial use in the United States. For 3D modeling, CAD software is used to reference the dimensions of the individual components of the device and through experimental means, it is estimated the compression spring constant that it possesses. It is expected that these partial results will serve as a basis, to encourage future research that can adapt this technology of efficient use of water, in cities of Colombia that have the potential to significantly impact the consumption of water and energy nationwide.
