Abstract

The current situation that we live in, demands professionals with capacity to solve problems, make decisions and correct solutions, actions that come from the good development of superior thinking skills. The present research studies the development of critical and creative thinking, through the use of learning strategies, critical reading and ABP (problem based learning) and the correlation between variables. It begins with an exhaustive review of scientific papers that present updated empirical data on the functioning of higher thinking skills and the positive and negative effects of each of the strategies. It is concluded that the use of learning strategies (cognitive, metacognitive, and affective), influence the development of critical and creative thinking skills, as well as strategies for teaching critical reading and problem-based learning. Critical reading fosters critical thinking for the reasoning of good judgment, and ABP develops critical and creative thinking from practice in real situations, using learning strategies and critical reading as a bridge, to acquire disciplinary knowledge from different perspectives, Criteria and solutions. The three strategies must be complemented with each other, so that the results are accurate and meaningful.
